Hello, I'm Courtney!

I taught 1st & 2nd grade for 8 years at a school where student engagement was one of our highest priorities. When children are engaged, they are actually learning! I ran many professional development classes for teachers on effective instructional practices. I’ve also worked with young children for over 17 years, and have a bachelor’s degree & a master’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Utah.

I know what it’s like to have kids engaged with
their learning to make deeper connections.

But it wasn't always this way...

I often felt like I was teaching the content, but that it was only sticking with a few of my students. I thought I was doing great mini-lessons, but then I had a harsh reality that my students were not actually learning what I was teaching. They were sitting quietly and looking at me while I was teaching, so I was confused why they were not able to recall what I had been “teaching”.

Then I learned some amazing teaching strategies to get children engaged with their learning. I started creating my own resources to bridge our standards with these strategies, and BAM! the majority of my students started grasping the content that I was teaching! It made me realize how important engaging students really is!

In college we learn a lot of how to make lesson plans, but that is only part of teaching (as we know).
